Kuda-kuda liar berlarian bebas menyusuri padang rumput luas yang berbukit-bukit. Sejauh mata memandang, yang tampak adalah bukit-bukit rumput yang menguning di musim kemarau. Di saat menjelang matahari terbenam, padang rumput yang berwarna kekuningan terkena sinar matahari sore sehingga bukit-bukit itu tampak berwarna keemasan dipandang dari kejauhan..

Sunrise at Walakiri…

Ayam berkokok terdengar di kejauhan. Waktunya shalat Subuh. Saya bangun dari sleeping bag yang saya gunakan sebagai alas tidur, mengintip sebentar keluar. Bintang-bintang masih tampak sebagian. Walau masih setengah mengantuk, saya keluar dari tenda, meregangkan badan sebentar, kemudian melemparkan pandangan ke arah laut. Siluet pohon-pohon bakau pantai Walakiri yang terkenal itu membayang di depan mata. Setelah berwudhu, saya menggelar sajadah di atas pasir & bersiap shalat. Shalat Subuh di pantai Walakiri, beratapkan langit, ditemani suara ombak kecil memecah pantai…

In addition to its natural beauty, Flores also attracts people to visit with its cultural variety & diversity. And Ikat, a hand-woven fabric, is one of the icons of Flores cultural treasure. This traditional work of art can be found in several regions in this island that become the production center of the fabrics that require persistence and patience in the production process. Maumere, Sikka, Ende, Ngada, Lio, Larantuka and Lembata to name some of them. Each region has its distinct character, respectively, of the motifs, patterns and colors of the ikat fabrics produced. A reflection of the ethnic diversity, customs and daily lifes of Flores island.

Although the main purpose of our Komodo trip was a diving trip, it would still feel not complete if we didn’t visit the Komodo National Park, watching and observing these endangered creatures in their natural habitat. We’ve already made a long trip all the way here. It would have been a loss if we didn’t stop by, especially for some of us who were first-timers going to this Komodo region. So, on the last day of the trip we only did two dives in the morning and right after lunch MV Tarata sailed towards Loh Buaya, one of the ranger station locations on Rinca Island..
